Coastal Communities Climate Resilience Partnership

This initiative seeks to build long-term collaborative partnerships with coastal communities across Atlantic Canada to strengthen local capacity for climate adaptation, ecosystem stewardship, and evidence-informed environmental planning. Coastal regions in the Atlantic provinces are increasingly exposed to sea-level rise, coastal erosion, flooding, and ecosystem degradation, creating urgent needs for locally relevant scientific knowledge and practical resilience strategies.

Through participatory research processes, community workshops, pilot restoration activities, and knowledge exchange platforms, the project will support communities in identifying environmental risks, assessing ecosystem services, and co-developing nature-based solutions adapted to their specific social and ecological contexts. The initiative will also facilitate dialogue between community stakeholders, researchers, conservation organizations, and public agencies to promote coordinated and sustainable coastal management approaches.

By integrating scientific evidence with local knowledge and community priorities, the project aims to strengthen adaptive capacity, support inclusive decision-making, and contribute to the long-term protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems. In doing so, the initiative will help advance equitable climate resilience pathways while reinforcing the role of communities as key partners in regional environmental stewardship and climate action.
